Steel is a man with no past traveling the countryside in search of the creature that took away the only thing he ever loved. Description: Jonathan Steel has no past. Now, he searches the countryside for the hideous creature. For over six weeks, no one has entered the Lakeside Community Church in Louisiana. When the woman he loved was killed by a vicious demon with a spiral eye, Steel committed his life to hunting own his nemesis.

He arrives in the small town of Lakeside, Louisiana to help out a desperate pastor whose church has been taken over by demonic forces.
Huge spiders and scorpions run around the sanctuary, blood pours out from the doors, and the baptistery holds a portal to another dimension. Steel calls on his mentor, Cephas, to send him to reinforcements, a linguist named Liz and a physicist named Claire who brings her troubled son, Joshua. Hennigan has an enigmatic hero in Steel, but he takes the mystery a bit too far at times.
The story suffers from too much back story and introduction of characters. Hennigan obviously has plans to write a large series, but pages are too few to include all of the story elements he wants to put into play. One thing that concerned me in reading is that Hennigan's descriptions of the evil forces are poetic and lengthy in nature, but the forces of good get far less detail, making them less real, more abstract for readers.

The story moves so quickly, and so many characters are introduced, there is little time to grow to care for them. I think that Hennigan has some terrific ideas, and Jonathan Steel could be a terrific hero, but it needs some work. With the help of a psychiatrist named April, he has moments of clarity where he gains bits and pieces of his former life, but only when he is in a rage of anger. Now all that remains of Jonathan's previous life is compiled into two years worth of memories but it involves finding and destroying the 13th demon, one more powerful than all the demons Satan has at his disposal, and this one wants to destroy everything pure and full of God's holiness. There is a brief historical look back into the human sacrifices of the Aztec civilization and thus where our story gains a bit of momentum.
Without giving up all the details of the story, Jonathan Steel is called in to help a pastor and his pregnant wife who are dealing with some strange things happening within the church and it appears that only Jonathan's expertise will help them wage the war against evil.

I received The 13th Demon by Bruce Hennigan compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review and would have to rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars. The story lags a bit with so much background of not only the character but of the current evil characters so it takes awhile before the reader really understands what is going on. Since this is a genre I enjoy, I look forward to the next book in this series.
Once you begin this one make sure you have time to finish or be prepared to be late to school, work, or where ever you may need to be.

This is a gripping page turner page after page from beginning to end. He has been severely beaten and left to die by the ocean. The man slips into a coma to awaken without any memory later in the hospital. Upon being discharged from the hospital he has no recollection or any memory of who he is and has no where to go, he accepts a job as a caretaker for a physician and falls for his daughter April. Finding her alive and unharmed, Jonathan attempts to escape the madman who had done such violence, only to have them both caught and April killed before Jonathan is able to kill the man, who is actually a demon.
As April lay dying in his arms, she told Jonathan that the demon had said that he had to kill Jonathan before he destroyed all of his kind. With her last breath, she begs Jonathan to fight the evil. And so the quest begins, but where does one look to find the demons and to prevent evil? An excellent entertaining read that demands to be finished once the first page has been read.

An astounding 5 stars! Apr 20, Carrie Watson rated it really liked it. Bruce Hennigan brought the characters to life and the had you wanting to keep reading in order to find out what would happen next in the story. This was a very exciting and 'active' read, with activity happening throughout the book. There was not any sections throughout that was slow or hard to keep interest.
Very good reading.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is drawn to tales of good against evil. I won this book in 'The 13th Demon' is a very well written book with a good story line. I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. Post a Comment. Brace yourself!!! This book is not for the faint of heart!
A rare thing it is for me to pick up a book that I do not put down till it is read from cover to cover, but this is one of them. I would have gone to bed, since I started it so late at night, but this book has enough of the Spirit Realm in it that I knew better than to sleep with out having read the ending. The introduction soon leaves off into the main stories and it just never lets up.
I can tell you that Bruce Hennigan has a great grip on demons, and humans. I thought it was very witty to tie the Aztex and Incas into the story, and then how it all ties up in that one artifact that was quite evil. I hope to not offend Mr. In that aspect I am sure this would scare the dear "blue haired Grandmothers" of certain denominations to bits! However, for those of us who have seen "too much", we know we fight demons just as livid, just as real as they are in The 13th Demon on a regular basis. Some people just never see them with their physical eyes, and others of us do.
